Whether you’re a seasoned social media manager or just diving into the world of online brand presence, these five tips will guide you in starting off the new year on the right foot with your business social media profile.

1. Reflect and Set Goals. Before you jump into content creation and posting schedules, take a moment to reflect on last year’s social media performance. Look at your metrics such as engagement, reach and follower growth. It’s important to remember that social media is a marathon, not a race. And just like a marathon, reaching the finish line takes training, time, and patience. Setting social media goals is about understanding where you’re currently at and forecasting where you want to be. Without them, it’s hard to know if your strategy is working. Here are some questions to get you started:

    1. What worked well and what can be improved? Did reels do better? Did a certain topic perform well? Was there something that was good but could be tweaked to do better?
    2. What are your social media marketing objectives? It could be things like generating more leads, driving sales, building brand awareness, or enhancing customer engagement.
    3. What key metrics do you want to measure against? A few examples are reach, engagement rate, growth in followers, shares, and saves.

2. Refresh Your Brand. A new year often brings a fresh perspective, and your social media profiles should reflect that. An easy way to get your audience’s attention is to update your profile and cover images. Ensure that your bio is up-to-date and clearly states what you do, who you help, where you’re located and contains your contact information. Consistency across all platforms is key, so take the time to review and update your business information across each social media channel.


3. Consistent Posting Schedule. Consistency is a crucial factor in maintaining an active and engaged social media presence. Create a calendar and establish a regular posting schedule that suits your audience’s habits. This doesn’t mean you have to post multiple times a day; even a few well-thought-out posts per week makes a significant impact. You can start by posting 3x a week and using Meta’s scheduling tool to post to both Instagram and Facebook. Not sure what to post? Here are a few post topics any business can use:

    1. About us – this is what I call the people bucket. Audiences want to know more than your business logo, they want to know about the people that are the business.
    2. Behind the scenes – you can show BTS of everyday life behind the curtain of the business. From coffee obsessions to workstation shots, celebrations and everything in between, audiences love getting a look at what happens behind the scenes.
    3. Customer Testimonials or Success Stories – got a Google review or receive an email of thanks from a customer? Share it on social! This shows proof to your audience that you do what you do well. It validates you.
    4. Product or service highlight – showcase all the services you provide. The more you share it, the more it becomes ingrained in your audience so that when the time comes that they need your service, you are top of mind.
    5. Educational content – You are the expert in your field and contain a lot of knowledge that your audience may not be aware of. The more you educate your audience on your product or service the more they become informed, and you show up as the expert.

4. Use Eye-Catching Visuals. Did you know that you have 2 seconds to capture the attention of a social media user? Which means what you put into those two seconds matters a lot! Before you get depressed about only having two seconds, I promise it is plenty of time to capture your audience’s attention to stop the scroll and pay attention to what you’re putting out. How? With good photos and videos. Visual content is a powerful tool for capturing attention on social media! Take visually appealing images, graphics and videos that align with your brand identity which includes product photos, promotional graphics, behind-the-scenes snapshots that show the personality and uniqueness of your business. Make sure your content is engaging, educational or entertaining.

5. ENGAGEMENT – This is the most crucial of all the tips for a successful social media presence. Social media is a platform for conversation, and businesses that actively engage with their audience often see increased visibility and loyalty. Encourage interaction by posing questions, running polls, and responding promptly to comments and messages. Encourage your employees to like and share your content to boost your engagement numbers. The better your engagement is, the more visibility your content will get. User-generated content is a goldmine for building community and trust. You want your audience to repost your content to not only provide social proof but to also foster a sense of connection between your brand and its followers.
